 Special Collections

Animal Husbandry

This collection covers care and maintenance of all types of pets and domestic animals, including some books on such fringe topics as aquaculture and gamekeeping. Our collection is geared towards the backyard farmer, homeowner, and hobbyist, not the commercial farmer or veterinarian.

The collection also includes participatory equestrian sports of all types, materials on horses in motion pictures, trick horses, etc. But please note that the topics of professional racing and rodeo are covered only in the most general and popular terms.

Antiques & Collectibles

This collection tries to include material chosen from the persepctive of a collector. It also includes materials on repair and maintenance of antiques, the business of buying and selling (from flea markets to e-Bay). While it does include price guides, we do not purchase new editions of all topics every year.

The core of the collection is geared to background information and basic identification, not pricing.

For pricing information, the Library subscribes to PriceIt! Antiques & Collectibles, an online electronic database antique/collectibles pricing tool. It is available for use by JMS Library Patrons.

Early Americana

This collection contains material on the cultural/social aspects of life in America from the colonial period through the 1850's, and is strong in architechture and domestic arts.

Some material on the Civil War era is included, as well as some later Victoriana, especially in the architectural section.

Local History

Access to our Local History Collection is available to persons over the age of 18.

Our collection is... eclectic. Thanks to donations from individuals and groups, in addition to targeted acquisitions our collection has grown to include many unexpected items of historic interest. We are glad of this growth, however, because the process of cataloguing and indexing the information is an ongoing one, it will be some time before we can offer a comprehensive overview of our holdings.

For a small taste of what we have in our collection, please visit our Stillwater Memories blog.

For those persons who are doing historic or genealogical research, we suggest that you contact our Reference Librarian to find out whether there may be materials in the collection that you will find useful.

Parents Special Education Resource

This collection is intended for parents and families of special needs children, rather than professionals in medical or education fields. Besides popular medical information, the collection includes coping material, and information on understanding special education rights and procedures.

This collection is integrated with the general non-fiction collection, and materials are identifiable by the yellow stripe on the spine.

Star Trek

An extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction from the Star Trek Universe and its spin-offs.
