 On Exhibit

Mr. & Mrs. Marcus Thompson Exhibit Case [Main Lobby]

A selection of Local History items on permanent display celebrating the history of the Stillwater Mill Complex.

The display now features a DETEX Watchclock Key Station donated by Harrisville Fire Chief Mark St. Pierre.

The night watchman wore a sash that carried a watchclock. Each building he monitored housed a wall receptacle— a DETEX Key station— which had its own special key attached to it by a chain. As the watchman made his rounds, he’d insert the key into his portable watchclock, and the unique die on each key would emboss a number on the paper tape within the clock, thus providing a record of the patrols that ensured the buildings were being monitored.

Exhibits Needed

Displays & Exhibits… Why?

If you’re a regular visitor to our library, you’ve probably noticed the changing exhibits in our display cases. Displays are a means through which the public can visually share experiences, appreciate special interests, and exchange information. Because the library functions as an intellectual and cultural resource for the community, displays and exhibits are important to our service goals.

Have you got something to display?

The Library welcomes exhibits and displays. If you have an interesting and display-worthy collection, craft, hobby, etc., which you would like to share with other patrons, and which will fit into the limited depth of our secure display cases, please let us know about it. You can call the library to discuss your idea, or download an application form, fill it out, and mail it to the library.

For more information about what kinds of exhibits and displays the library will accept, please read the library's Display & Exhibit Policy.
